Christ's News

  1. History Painting
  2. The 5 M long work, 'History painting', since its recent installation in the MCR has been raising questions and eyebrows. On the 9th of June 2009 Tom de Freston will be giving a talk on this recently commissioned painting. The talk will discuss the thematics of the work along with making sense of the multiple art historical references.

We would very much like you to be present at this event and possibly even to participate in the questions and debate that will follow.

We look forward to seeing you there. If possible, please RSVP to Tom (tasd2).

  10. Director of Collegiate and Faculty Relations, Cambridge Union Society, Opera in the Chamber: The Magic Flute (Please note that the time has CHANGED to a 9.30pm start on the Tuesday 9th June)

The time is near: The Magic Flute- Shadwell Opera

    9th June * The Cambridge Union * 21:30

Shadwell Opera (5* Varsity) and GCMS present its second production, The Magic Flute by W.A.Mozart (5* Posterity), a Masonic singspiel fairytale opera guaranteed to make you laugh, cry, and ponder the mysteries of ritual, romance and music itself as part of your post-exam piss-up.

Join Tamino, our charming prince, and Papageno, his strange-but-lovable sidekick, as they embark on a daring, confusing, and often silly quest to rescue the beautiful Pamina, daughter of the powerful Queen of the Night, from the elusive Sarastro. Follow them on their journey through a ritualistic land of music, where secrecy dominates, power is everything, and song is the battleground between good and evil. Can Tamino and Pamina ever be together? Will Papageno find his Papagena?

Come and see the union transformed into the temple of the brotherhood, and St. John's master's garden, as The Magic Flute, the most majestical of operas, is brought to life in an original translation by Kit Hesketh-Harvey (Clare College, 1975) tailor made for the 'mighty-boosh generation.'

Tickets on the door...or to reserve (advisable - tickets are going fast), email Elly at elb59@cam.ac.uk
