The Old Kitchens, Queens' College
PROFESSOR BREAN HAMMOND (University of Nottingham), 'Theobald's Falshood'
"The paper considers some of the reasons why, on balance of
probabilities, I consider that behind Lewis Theobald's Double Falshood
(1727), there are texts of earlier provenance - most significantly, a
late collaboration by Shakespeare and Fletcher probably called The
History of Cardenio."
With a response from DR. NEIL PATTISON (St. John's, Cambridge),
'Theobald's Falshood [sic]'
Followed by wine and discussion. All Welcome!

- FlexJex
*flexjex.com is all about helping students to find summer placements,
internships and short-term work. We also cater to graduates who want to go
into freelancing, especially in high-tech companies like those around
Cambridge.*
We've started this because our experience studying engineering (at
Peterhouse) and on a post-grad course at the Institute for Manufacture
taught us a couple of things:
1. That students sometimes want to have interesting work for the summers,
and that it can be a really interesting way of choosing what to do after
Tripos (I found out I didn't want to be a civil engineer this way ) But
that there had to be a way to MAKE IT EASIER for undergrads to post their
skills and contact employers.
2. That high-street employment agencies DON'T UNDERSTAND at all what a
student can offer, even if only on a 2 week placement. This typically means
that if you walk into an agency in Cambridge or at home you end up either
not being considered, or being offered some useless filing job.
flexjex.com is different - it's just for people like you. We let you post
your profile (incl. CV) online and bid on projects which employers have
posted for free. You bid with your preferred day-rate, but don't worry,
there's a guide price to get you started!

- National Vegetarian Week?! Go on...give it a go!
From 18th May to 24th May its National Vegetarian Week. This is a brilliant
opportunity to discover the benefits of going vegetarian! Why not give it a
go for a week? Challenge yourself; see if you can last a week without meat!
Perhaps, like me, you have eaten meat all your life and feel it would be
too much of an effort to change. Well then why don't we challenge that
conjecture?! I am not going to eat any meat for a whole week and I
invite/challenge you to join me in that.
So why should you do it?
1. Health - A well balanced vegetarian diet is a healthy choice, with all
the nutrients you need. It's the easiest way to reach the recommended five
portions of fruit and veg a day. As an added bonus meat prices have risen
significantly recently, but veg is cheaper!
2. Green! - The process of rearing animals is much more energy intensive
than growing crops. Farmed animals are actually one of the main
contributors to greenhouse gas emissions; a veggie diet is a tasty way to
significantly reduce your carbon footprint.
3. Animals - Every day a phenomenal number of animals are slaughtered to
satisfy our meat demand. (2.3million per day according to www.viva.org.uk
and www.vegsoc.org.uk )
4. Vegetarian formal! There will be two full vegetarian menu formals on
Monday 18th and Thursday 21st May. A perfect opportunity to sample some
delicious vegetarian dishes!
5. What have you got to lose? Try it for a week and if you can't cope, go
get yourself a big bloody steak on the 24th
