Ents

Cambridge is not renowned for its wild nightlife, but there is plenty to do of an evening if you know where to look, from big live bands at The Junction; smaller, more intimate live bands at The Haymakers' or Portland Arms; or Comedy at the Corn Exchange or Wolfson Howler every fortnight. The ADC, despite having one of the best and cheapest bars in Cambridge, puts on plays (or occasionally music or dance) and comedy twice every night; and there will always be classical music concerts in one of Cambridge's many churches, or Jazz in any one of a variety of disparate locations. Concerts are occasionally advcertised in college, but also on the railings off the Market Square.

For (club-stylee) nights out, there's a great selection for any tastes, listed on Outside College. In general, people go to Fez on a Monday night; stay in on Tuesday (though all the clubs are obviously open, and my personal selection for this night is Goth or Rock night - alternating - at Kambar); Cindie's (really called Ballare, but universally called Cindie's) on Wednesday ; Fez on Thursday; Fridays either Kambar for the IndieSoc event or Soul Tree for R'n'B (or Clare Cellars); Kambar or Soul Tree as preferred on Saturday; and either Life or Fez on Sunday.

As well as all this, there are the college events. As Ents Officer, my main role (imagine the circumflex on the 'o') is to organise two Bops a term, just before and just after term. These are a mix between a school disco-y type thing and a club night (the DJing is normally more cheesy as it's done by people in college), where you know everyone there (even if only as 'that Overkeen Fresher or that Scary Marg) and can laugh at the fancy dress and drag. They're always enjoyable (I hope), as is the Margs Bop (almost identical, but organised by the Margs and with a punch on). There are also other colleges events: Clare Cellars are widely regarded as a good way to start a Friday night before heading to Kambar or Soul Tree, and Churchill PAV is well-attended by the Hill Colleges.
