Parents and Siblings Scheme
Before you arrive at Cambridge you will receive two letters from complete strangers. But don’t be alarmed! In college we operate a parents and sibling scheme where each fresher is allocated two parents and a sibling.
Parents
Your college mum and dad are usually doing another subject to you and are there to offer support and show you around. In freshers week they will organise a meal with you and a tour of college. Its important to remember that parents were in your position a year ago and are therefore well acquainted with the fears and questions that you may have. Some students form bonds with their college parents that last them through their whole time at Cambridge, and it really is useful having somebody to watch over you when you first arrive.
Siblings
Unlike your parents, brothers and sisters will definitely be doing the same subject as you. For this reason they are often called ‘academic siblings’ and are there to offer advice and answer questions about your subject (well obviously!) In freshers week you will meet them and they will take you for a tour of your relevant faculty and tell you all about lectures, supervisions and whatever other nerdy chat you want to indulge in!
