Good evening, my name is Thom, and I am to be your Ents Officer for this year. Unless you’re reading this in the morning, in which case I am still your Ents Officer, but ‘Good evening’ is hardly the appropriate form of address.

As Ents Officer, I am in charge of Entertainments. This mainly takes the form of college party-type things, known for some reason known to neither man nor beast as ‘Bops’. As well as this, I connect Christ’s students to University-wide events and club nights and the like (especially those organised by CUSU) as well as sell tickets for anything organised by CUSU if anybody wants. If you’re ever planning a night out, it’s often worth talking to me to ask if I have anything I can get you in for cheap (SUAD at Revs, for example) because I don’t take commission. The more important part of my job, though, is trying to organise events in college: music, arty stuff, poetry or literature-type stuff, I can help talk to the college to get it put on, and help act as a link between student societies wanting to put on events and the college authorities. That’s all my official role is, so I spend the rest of JCR time feeling guilty that I’m not doing enough to help, and  so trying to make myself useful to the rest of the JCR Exec.
