Women's Officer
|
Hi! My name is Anna Carden and I’m your Women’s Officer. I am a first-year from Northampton studying Arabic and French. I enjoy languages, drama and socialising and I love being part of the community here at Christ’s college so I am keen to continue to improve our quality of life via the JCR. My role is to represent women’s views in college so you have any problems or queries, please come to see me! I will do my best to help you and if necessary, I can raise issues at JCR meetings, the Women’s Union and CUSU. I am committed to women’s welfare within college so if anything, however small, is concerning you feel free to approach me for a confidential and non-judgemental chat. I will listen and provide advice, information and ample amounts of tea and chocolate. I can also point you in the direction of other people that may be able to help as well, such as our JCR Welfare Officer, the Chaplain, the College Nurse, your personal tutor and the free university counselling service amongst others. Corny as it may sound, a problem shared is often a problem halved and I am always happy to listen. You can come to me for pregnancy tests, sanitary products, condoms, personal emergency alarms, Chlamydia self-tests and more. Alternatively, just get in touch and I can leave whatever you might need in your pigeon hole. Each Monday, I will fill the pink Women’s Box in the ladies toilets beneath the library with condoms and sanitary products (tampons and pads). These supplies are aimed to prevent anyone being ‘caught out’, so should be treated as an emergency resource to avoid their constant depletion. That said, if the box becomes empty quickly, let me know and I will fill it again if needs be. There is a taxi reimbursement scheme in place for anyone coming home alone or in pairs late at night. Make sure you get a receipt and fill in a pink slip (from the drawers near the pigeon holes) and put both in my pigeon hole. 2/3 of the taxi fare will be reimbursed through the finance office. Over the year, I aim to organise a women’s social gathering once a term so that we can all bond and have a laugh. I plan to publicise university-wide women’s campaigns at a college level and liaise with the Access Officer to maintain excellent access for women to the college. My email address is ac674 or womens(@thejcr.co.uk) if you want to arrange to meet or I am usually around college (bar, Upper Hall, JCR or my room 4/23) so come and find me! Please get in touch if you have any ideas, questions of concerns, it’d be great to hear from you!
