Cat - Natural Sciences (Biological)
Name: Cat Donaldson
Subject: Natural Sciences (Biochemistry)
Year: 3rd
A-levels taken: Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Theatre Studies, Critical Thinking
What does your working week entail?
Now just 1/2 lectures each day plus
working in the lab for my part II research project. In part I it was
lectures every day (including Saturday) and practicals 3 days a week, but trust me
you dont have to go to those.
How easy was the transition from A-level to the first year of your degree?
It was alright, especially the biological
subjects, chemistry was a bit more of a challenge but still not too big a
jump. The work load itself was not much, only a couple of essays and some
questions each week.
How easily can you fit social activities into your working week?
Very easily! Natural scisentists (nat-scis) have a bad reputation for having
loads of work, but really its the same as any subject - you can do as
little or as much as you want, and the minimum is not much at all.
What sort of things did you talk about in your interview?
With the admissions tutor I talked about: work
experience, my weaknesses, how much i love science!
With Professor Stanley, my Director of Studies (DOS), it was all subject related questions, and figuring stuff
out in problems etc, she just loves a bit of enthusiasm and a smile.
