Sunday 4th May saw the colleges of Cambridge take to the pool for the annual Cuppers swimming gala, in what proved to be a very hotly contested event.
The Christ’s men’s and women’s teams both demonstrated their strength in depth, with excellent relay and individual performances by all club members. Special congratulations go to Adam Kuo, Pippa Ball and Grace McGregor for reaching all of their individual finals; Adam going on to win the 100m frontcrawl in emphatic style.
After the points had been totted up, Christ’s emerged eventual runners up with 120 points, only one point behind the defending champions Catz. This is an excellent result for the club and is testament to the training that they have put in throughout the year. Hopefully next year we will be able to topple Catz and lift the trophy!
Men’s team: Adam Kuo, Rory Gregson, Lukas Wittern, James Bartram.
Women’s team: Pippa Ball, Nadia Ogilvie, Grace McGregor, Hattie Baker, Nisha Pillay.James Bartram in Swimming
The Old Members Sporting Awards are monetary awards given by the College, and selected by a panel, in name of former members of the College. The awards are usually given to a select few students excelling in their given sport(s).
This year two new awards were given for the first time: the Garry Owen award, endowed by Professor Stephen Blyth in memory of a former member of the Buttery staff who played rugby and football for the College in the 1980s and was elected a member of the Marguerites; and the Jeremy Taylor award in memory of our former Head Porter.
Congratulations goes to the six major award winners for 2013-14, as pictured with Senior Tutor Dr.Hunt and Professor Stephen Blyth.
